Description

This exhibition explores the work of the Peruvian photographer Martín Chambi (1891-1973), whose images afforded a new social take on portrait and scenery which today are considered symbols of a specific time and culture: that of Cusco society. In the world portrayed by Chambi, the extreme forms of abandonment, discrimination and servitude have been dignified by the cleanliness and elegance of their treatment, an egalitarian view of respect and admiration for his culture: “I feel like a representative of race, which speaks in my photographs” he once declared with regard to his work.
