Imagine the Future We Want is part of the celebrations marking Telefónica’s centenary, a key moment to analyze the present and the past, with a view towards the future. This series of events has been designed to give voice to different thinkers, researchers, intellectuals, and scientists from a multitude of fields and disciplines, with the aim of finding the keys that will allow us to answer the following question: What can we do today to build the future we want?

Throughout this series, we have had the honor of hosting globally renowned figures. Among them, Michael J. Sandel, one of the most influential thinkers of our time, known for his reflections on justice and ethics in contemporary society. We were also joined by David Calle, nominated for the Global Teacher Prize and considered by Forbes as one of the most creative people in the world, who has revolutionized education with his innovative approach.

The series also included the presence of Canadian essayist Michael Ignatieff, whose contributions to political and social thought have been widely recognized. Pulitzer Prize winner Jane Smiley shared her literary perspectives, while Italian writer Andrea Marcolongo offered us a unique view from historical and linguistic narratives.

Additionally, we had the privilege of listening to the 2021 Nobel Prize in Literature, Abdulrazak Gurnah, whose works address themes of displacement and belonging. American thinker Jenny Odell invited us to reflect on the use of time and attention in the digital age, and renowned economist Mariana Mazzucato challenged us to reconsider the role of the state and innovation in the modern economy.

This series of events not only celebrates Telefónica’s legacy but also encourages us to look forward, inspiring everyone to actively contribute to building a better and more sustainable future.
