On 18 and 19 October we’ll hold the sixth enlightED, the world conference on education, technology and innovation, with a focus on youth and experiences and the collaboration of Fundación Telefónica, IE University, South Summit and the La Caixa Foundation.

Focusing on the future generations, enlightED 2023 will feature more than 30 debates, workshops and case studies and 50 domestic and international speakers, who will introduce us to this new technology that’s burst onto the scene this year and revolutionised the world and, above all, education. The confirmed speakers include Toju Duke, founder of Diverse AI, Daniel Susskind, an expert on the impact of technology focusing on AI, work and society and professor of Economics at King’s College London, Carl-Benedikt Frey, Dieter Schwarz associate professor of Artificial Intelligence and Work at the Oxford Internet Institute, Edo Segal, founder and CEO of bMuse, and Priya Lakhani, founder and CEO of Century Tech.

EnlightED 2023, the global conference that brings together education, technology and innovation, will be held for the sixth time on 18 and 19 October at Espacio Fundación Telefónica in Madrid, with prestigious domestic and international speakers and the participation of Fundación Telefónica, IE University, South Summit and the La Caixa Foundation.

This sixth conference, devoted to rethinking education in the era of Artificial Intelligence for the future generations, will focus on the challenges and solutions posed by generative AI, its use and its applications for teachers and students, respect for diversity, regulation and ethical boundaries and the impact on the future of employment, among other issues.

There will be a free programme featuring more than 30 debates, workshops and case studies and 50 domestic and international speakers, who will introduce us to this new technology which has burst onto the scene this year, revolutionised the world and marked a turning point in all the sectors, including the transformation of the labour market, industry, business, communication and, above all, education. The event can be followed in person and streamed.

Rethinking education in the age of AI

Main talks:

The speakers this year will reflect on the opportunities offered by generative artificial intelligence in the fields of education, entrepreneurship, ethics and employment. Those confirmed include Toju Duke, founder of Diverse AI, a speaker, author and advisor on responsible AI, Daniel Susskind, an expert on the impact of technology focusing on AI,work and society, professor of Economics at King’s College London and associate researcher at the Institute for Ethics in Artificial Intelligence at Oxford University, Carl- Benedikt Frey, Dieter Schwarz associate professor of Artificial Intelligence and Work at the Oxford Internet Institute and fellow of Mansfield College at Oxford University, Edo Segal, serial entrepreneur, inventor and private investor, currently founder and CEO of bMuse, and Priya Lakhani, founder and CEO of Century Tech, among many others.

Panel discussions and debates:

This year’s event will also feature several panel discussions addressing the impact of AI on the field of education from different standpoints: Artificial Intelligence and Education: guides for future public policies, What are the basic AI tools for the next digital generation?, Mastering the Ed-Tech Universe, revealing how the boundaries of EdTech and the use of technology are being extended to revolutionise learning methods, and Discovering the EdTech Gold Rush, on the strategies, opportunities and investment trends in education from a technological point of view.

The programme will be complemented by a seminar by Carlos Santana, DotCSV, disseminator, YouTuber and professor of Machine Learning & Data Science at the EOI, a

panel debate chaired by Francesca Borgonovi, Head of Skills Analysis at the OECD Centre for Skills, on the potential of AI in industry and employment, its opportunities in skills training and the importance of cybersecurity in this new scenario, the presentation of UNESCO’s 2023 GEM Report (Global Education Monitoring Report) titled Technology in education. A tool on whose terms?, addressing the use of technology in education around the world through relevance, equity, scalability and sustainability, and a panel discussion devoted to the future of employment and the most in-demand skills based on Reskilling for Employment, an initiative of the European Round Table (ERT), a high- level forum bringing together the CEOs of around 60 of Europe’s largest industrial and technological companies, which connects employees and the unemployed with training programs to acquire new skills and embark on new career paths.

Experiences and workshops

This sixth enlightED conference will offer a series of participatory workshops to experience the uses and applications of AI in learning models. These will include The impact of Generative AI on baccalaureate exams, a workshop during which teachers and students will examine AI tools. The aim is for the two collectives to rate the questions and answers in terms of equivalence. The workshop will be followed by the free official course in order to provide practical applications and examples of how to use ChatGPT to help teachers to integrate these technologies into their classrooms.

There will be other workshops aimed at introducing and training the educational community in the new AI tools in the field of education: Possibilities of generative AI in teaching: Exploring Prompting in Education and Generative Artificial Intelligence to take your classes to the next level. There also will be an AI workshop for non- programmers for the general public, at which attendees will learn the first notions of using this technology to enable them to apply it in their daily lives.

enlightED will also host an AI-generated live performance, AWWZ AI DJ SET, during which a specially trained AI will analyse YouTube comments in song suggestions. The AI system is developed by artificial intelligence and sound engineers from the UPC – Barcelona Tech University: Mireia de Gracia, Casimiro Pio Carrino and Dimas Avila.

Over 2 million viewers

Over the years, enlightED has become a point of reference for the educational community and anyone interested in the subject. In previous years we’ve hosted speakers such as Howard Gardner, Barbara Oakley, Daniel Goleman, Hadi Partovi, Rose Luckin, Alok Kanojia, Jeff Maggioncalda, Ken Robinson and Bisila Bokoko, among many others. Since its first year, enlightED has become a global flagship in the field of education, innovation and technology. The event has recorded 2.7 million viewers from 46 countries, 100 talks, 600 international speakers and 4.4 million viewings. Around 1,300 people attended the event last year and the presentations were viewed more than 1.6 million times.
