We kicked off the Digital Society Forum 2021 events with this talk, where we explored the relationship between humanities and the jobs of the future. This forum accompanies the Digital Society Report, published by Fundación Telefónica each year, which analyses the progress of digital society in Spain in terms of the development of infrastructure, technology and services; the advance of digitalisation in Spanish households, and the main global trends in this field.

In recent years, it has become obvious that companies need to hire professionals with a background in disciplines considered traditional like humanities or social sciences, but who also have a wide range of skills when it comes to digital methodologies and tools. It is this need that new master’s programmes run by various Spanish public universities are aiming to fulfil and give visibility to. The Complutense University of Madrid, the Autonomous University of Madrid, the University of Barcelona, the University of the Basque Country and the University of Salamanca are all here at our auditorium today.

We heard first-hand what digital profiles companies and institutions are looking for from recent graduates, presented responses from universities and shared experiences and resources applicable to different market niches.
