Fundación Telefónica’s Youth Employability Programme was launched in October 2014 and includes 500 occupational training grants, 500 internships, 50 job launch schemes and 3,000 entrepreneurship experiences through Think Big.

The first set of young people taking part in Fundación Telefónica’s Youth Employability Programme have received their diplomas after specialising in fibre-optic installation and doing interships in 8 collaborating companies: Abentel, Cobra, Comfica, Cotronic, Dominion, Elecnor, Itete, and Liteyca. Of the 250 who did Internships, 62 (25%) have already found jobs.

The 250 young people, aged between 18 and 35, come from Andalusia, Castile and León, Catalonia, Madrid, the Basque Country, La Rioja and Valencia. They all underwent a training module in Fibre Optic Installation (30 hours), learnt key employment skills (30 hours), and did internships in various companies (240 hours).

The internships in technological companies are aimed towards those who already have an intermediate level of Occupational Training. They are given theoretical specialisation in the technology sector as well as the possibility to spend six months developing what they have learned. After the first 250 internships, there are plans to train another 250 young people in 2015. The internships will take place in companies in seven autonomous communities (Andalusia, Castile and León, Catalonia, Madrid, the Basque Country, La Rioja and Valencia).
