Nearly 20,000 Telefónica Volunteers and 165 social organisations, united to promote social and digital inclusion
On Friday 6th June, the ‘International Telefónica Volunteering Day’ was celebrated, an event during which Fundación Telefónica, together with nearly 20,000 volunteers and more than a hundred social organisations, makes visible its commitment to promote social and digital inclusion, using technology as a tool to achieve it.
During the day at Distrito Telefónica, the group’s headquarters in Madrid, the company’s Chairman, Marc Murtra, and the Chief Operating Officer, Emilio Gayo, witnessed the significance of this event which, for the entire team that forms part of the corporate volunteering programme, is a date that strengthens Telefónica’s commitment to ensuring that no one is left behind.

At this year’s event, more than 300 solidarity activities were carried out, showcasing the daily work of volunteers to reduce social and digital vulnerability in different groups.
In Spain alone, around 7,200 Telefónica volunteers have participated alongside more than 80 social organisations, impacting nearly 80,000 people. A total of 166 activities were carried out across the country to promote social and digital inclusion. Notable activities included:
- For the elderly: RECONNECTED workshops on digitalisation and video games, as a tool for maintaining cognitive, mental and social health.
- For primary school children: workshops on computational thinking.
- For secondary students: AI workshops held at the 42 programming campuses.
- For people with disabilities: among others, we have participated in the construction of 3D-printed prostheses.
- In Valencia: five activities have been carried out to address the effects of the DANA.
At the iconic Telefónica building on Gran Vía (Madrid), both the Espacio Fundación Telefónica and Espacio Movistar have welcomed the visit of young people and groups in vulnerable situations. In addition, almost 100 Movistar shops throughout Spain have joined the celebration by promoting awareness about the safe and responsible use of technology.
The environment has also been the protagonist of some of the activities dedicated to the collection of waste for its maintenance and care. And the Madrid 42 programming campus was the setting for a concert by Rock A La Par, a band made up of young musicians with disabilities.
For the first time, this year’s event at Distrito Telefónica welcomed around 20 companies that form part of Voluntare, the most important network of corporate volunteer programmes in Spanish-speaking countries worldwide.

Fundación Telefónica, digital inclusion to make the world more human
At Fundación Telefónica, we strive to make our world more human by promoting digital inclusion. We work to respond to four major challenges: reducing the education gap, improving employability, fostering social and digital integration, and promoting art, culture and thought. We anticipate the opportunities and challenges of digitalisation by safeguarding digital rights, and develop free training programmes to accompany people throughout their lives: educating children on digital skills and the responsible use of technology, preparing young people and adults to access digital professions, and digitally empowering older people so that they are not left behind.
