At this meeting, more than 340 people, veterans of the company and young new recruits, shared their experiences and learned about the company's history.

Experiences, shared values, emotions, pride in what has been achieved and excitement for the future. This is how one could sum up the spirit that today marked MIRADAS TELEFÓNICA, a meeting presented by Fundación Telefónica as part of the company’s centenary celebrations, which brought together more than 340 people, company veterans and young people who have recently joined the company, to share experiences and values of the company that continue to live on generation after generation. In this way, the celebration highlighted the intergenerational connection and the values that have guided the company throughout its history.

Through talks and activities, participants were able to share experiences and reflect on the impact of the evolution of telecommunications throughout history.

The meeting took place in four cities simultaneously. At the Espacio Fundación Telefónica in Madrid, and at the campus 42 in Barcelona, Malaga and Urduliz.

Luis Prendes, Director of Fundación Telefónica: “It is an honour to live and be part of this family that makes it possible to make the world more humane and to connect people’s lives to each other which is the purpose that makes this company unique”

The event began with a welcome from Elena Parreño, Head of Talent and Development at Telefónica, who recalled the importance of the event because it “brings together the people who built this company and the people who will continue to build it”.

Marta Machicot, CPO of Telefónica, Julio Linares, trustee of Fundación Telefónica, and Santiago González Carrero, president of Mayores Telefónica, took part in the conference. In their talk, they shared reflections on the history and future of the company, the telephone spirit and the advantages of working in intergenerational teams.

Miradas Telefónica seeks to honour the company’s history and encourage the continuity of its legacy, since, as Julio Linares pointed out: “the telephone spirit has always been fundamental, made up of a vocation for service, instinct and commitment to constant transformation. This spirit has brought us to where we are today”

The intergenerational connection has been a key aspect of the meeting, and Mayores Telefónica emphasised its value: “With social and technological advances, we veterans may have little to contribute technically to the younger generation. However, we can help them with conflict, people and stress management. Our seniority is a significant asset,” said Santiago González Carrero, president of Mayores Telefónica.

Therefore, during the event, there were panel discussions and collaborative activities where young and old were able to exchange ideas, such as a visit to the exhibition ‘Exponential. From analogue to digital’. This permanent exhibition, which can be found on the first floor of Espacio Fundación Telefónica, explores the growing impact that the development of telecommunications has had on all areas of our lives.

As Telefónica celebrates 100 years of history, it reminds us that every small effort, whether it is the first telephone pole placed in a region or the development of applications that revolutionise everyday life, has been fundamental in connecting people.  In this regard, the participants shared their impressions in response to the question: “What does Telefónica represent in our lives?” , in a colloquium moderated by Luis Prendes, Director General of Fundación Telefónica.

The day was brought to a close by Prendes and Marta Machicot. The company’s CPO highlighted Telefónica’s spirit and capacity for innovation, without ever losing its commitment to society: “Throughout these 100 years, Telefónica has transformed itself many times, to face the different technological, economic and social challenges, always putting people at the centre

“It is an honour to live and be part of this family that makes it possible to create a more humane world to connect people’s lives, a purpose that makes this company unique”, concluded the general director of Fundación Telefónica, putting the finishing touch to the day.

With Miradas Telefónica, the company reaffirms its commitment to innovation and human connection, honouring a glorious past while looking to a future full of possibilities. The celebration is not only a tribute to the achievements, but also an invitation to continue building Telefónica’s legacy together

Marta Machicot, CPO of Telefónica: “Throughout these 100 years, Telefónica has transformed itself many times, to face the different technological, economic and social challenges, always putting people at the centre.”
