The Telefónica Group is mobilising to support society at a time when it is most needed and is launching the #SolidarityforUkraine campaign to help in this humanitarian crisis with the help of Telefónica organisations, institutions and volunteers. Different support channels have been activated, such as financial donation campaigns, free calls and SMS between Spain and Ukraine, collection of basic necessities, TV content for children arriving in our country and care for displaced persons, with the help of the Red Cross and ACCEM.

Faced with the dramatic situation in Ukraine, Telefónica and its foundation are mobilising to help the millions of people who have had to flee their country because of the war.  Through the urgent #SolidarityforUkraine campaign, the Group has set up different support channels according to the needs of the moment. In this way, it places economic, human and digital resources at the service of society, together with social entities and institutions.

Marta Machicot, Telefónica’s Global Head of People, comments that “Telefónica has been working from the outset in this humanitarian crisis to channel the solidarity of the company and our employees, so that the aid reaches the affected people in the most efficient way”.

Carmen Morenés, Director General of Fundación Telefónica, adds: “Once again the willingness of all Group employees is admirable. The foundation is responding to needs as they arise, always in collaboration with social entities and institutions that are in the front line”.

Phase 1: Financial donation campaign, mobilisation and free communications

Together with the Red Cross and Aktion Deutschland Hilft, a donation collection campaign has been organised to help displaced people, which will be added to a financial contribution made by Fundación Telefónica.

Collaborate to help address the humanitarian crisis in Ukraine

Movistar has also made free international calls and SMS between Spain-Ukraine and Germany-Ukraine available to its customers, companies and private individuals, thus facilitating communication between family, friends and companies at such a delicate time. In addition, roaming is free for customers in Ukraine. Both initiatives will be available for an indefinite period of time.

Telefónica and its foundation has also made its mobilisation and dissemination capacity available to the Spanish and International Red Cross through its Movistar shops, employees and social networks.

Another of the needs identified is the awareness of the best way of channelling aid at all times. To this end, it has organised an informative talk of experts in the field and of the social organisation ACCEM to bring the reality of life in Ukraine closer to home.

Furthermore, on 27 March at 12.30h, in the Espacio Fundación Telefónica in Madrid, the solidarity concert The Music of Recycling for Ukraine will take place in cooperation with ECOEMBES. Admission will be free with advance booking, and a Row 0 has been activated to collect donations that will go to Aldeas Infantiles to help children and families in Ukraine.

Phase 2: Collection and shipment of essential materials

Different collection points for basic necessities have been set up in Madrid, Alicante and Valencia, which were dispatched today in a convoy coordinated with the Generalitat Valenciana and the Governments of Ukraine, Poland and Slovakia. Telefónica volunteers have collaborated in the collection of non-perishable foodstuffs, hygiene products and first aid medical material. The initiative has succeeded in raising almost 6 tonnes of basic necessities that are being transported by Zeleris, the logistics company of the Telefónica Group. Other initiatives by company employees have also been channelled to social organisations that are working at ground zero.

Phase 3: Care for displaced persons

In order to be able to give support and care to the Ukrainian people who are starting to arrive in Spain, Fundación Telefónica is coordinating different actions with social entities to promote their social inclusion, learning and leisure. Movistarplus+ is collaborating with the Red Cross so that children can to enjoy its educational and entertainment content.

Support will also be provided in the reception, drop-in and referral centres that are being officially set up.
