Data Journalism and Open Data

Fecha: April 2014

Lugar: Espacio Fundación Telefónica – Madrid

To start with, two talks and a round-table were held to discuss the latest trends in this field, which is rapidly emerging all over the world. These workshops were organised by Fundación Telefónica in collaboration with MediaLab Prado and the Spanish group Open Knowledge Foundation.

During this edition, we considered the importance of data journalism in the world of communication media and were taught how stories can be told visually, how data can be used to create content, and much more.

A novelty this time was the chance to understand the story behind the successful international initiative ‘Chicas Poderosas’ (Powerful Girls), which has already begun in other Latin American countries such as Costa Rica, Colombia and Chile and which seeks to provide an incentive for women to take on roles linked to technology in the field of journalism.

The workshops continued in the afternoon at MediaLab Prado with a practical workshop on visual narration by Mariana Santos, as well as other activities.
