Gran Vía Laboratory
Fundación Telefónica, as part of the celebrations to mark the centenary of the Gran Vía, presents “Laboratorio Gran Vía”, a collective reflection on the past, present and future of the street which for the last hundred years has been a driving force in the life of Madrid.
From 2nd July to 17th October 2010
Sala de Exposiciones, Fundación Telefónica. Gran Vía 28. 3ª planta. 28013 Madrid
If construction of the Gran Vía was a challenge for urban planning 100 years ago, Fundación Telefónica now aims to remain committed to the future, with this imaginative, visionary and even utopian exhibition.
“Laboratorio Gran Vía” contains projects which speculate on a new vision of the urban centre, proposing a virtual visit to the scene which places special emphasis on its metropolitan character and social and economic structure, to finally focus on the potential of the Gran Vía as a generator of new urban content.
In the exhibition, projects are presented by a group of architects linked professionally to the centre of Madrid and sharing certain common features, such as their uncompromising commitment to architecture, their ability to provoke and their influence on coming generations, since they are all teachers in schools of architecture.
