GELP is a partnership agreement among education leaders that aims to create a global community of educational teams to lead the change towards Education 3.0: new pedagogies, curricula and evaluation methods that allow students to develop their skills.
From 19 to 21 April, a GELP (Global Education Leaders’ Partnership) Global Event was held in Durban, South Africa. Under the title ‘Building Future Learning Systems’, it constituted a framework for sharing and exchanging experiences related to education through a series of workshops and labs. The event also dedicated a large area to the achievements made by Brazil in this field.
As such, the programme aims to accelerate and support these transformation activities within educational systems and facilitate global communication among local leaders. Fundação Telefônica Vivo forms the Brazilian chapter of GELP, coordinating a work team that meets several times a year and includes a series of state and municipal education departments.
Brazil attended two workshops at the event held in Durban. During the first workshop, titled “How the alliance between institutions, foundations and governments has influenced educational macropolitics in Brazil”, organised by Fundação Telefônica Vivo, Todas pela Educação and Instituto Natura, parallels were drawn between these organisations’ activities so as to compare Brazil’s experiences with those of other countries.
At the second workshop, “Examples of activities that have demonstrably encouraged educational change in Brazil and the political challenges in their implementation”, the Jacarei (São Paulo) and Viamão (Rio Grande do Sul) laboratories were presented. Participants in the workshop, chaired by Fundação Telefônica, were invited to reflect on the tertiary sector’s role in education and on the programmes implemented jointly with local governments in Brazil.
Over the three days of the event, other opportunities for exchanging ideas were implemented, including open discussions for participants to air their different interests.
