Fundación Telefónica is aiming to provide high-quality training to teachers from different schools in the country in order to procure students with the best development and opportunities and bolster their education.

Fundación Telefónica will soon begin an online training course for teachers. More than 1,300 teachers will take part, including headteachers at 119 schools from 50 different municipalities and 10 different departments in El Salvador. Training will be delivered in two stages, the first running from 22 March to 31 May.

This process will be carried out in partnership with the National Directorates for Pedagogy and Central Education, as well as the Vice-Ministry of Science and Technology from the Ministry of Education, which institutions have given Telefónica their support and authorisation to work with the teachers from the different schools selected in the new training programme.

Through Fundación Telefónica and in partnership with the Ministry of Education, we seek to enhance teachers’ knowledge in order to improve and strengthen the quality of education in the country”

The aim of the training course is for teachers to learn and take on innovative teaching methods, and for this knowledge to be applied to the national syllabus and in turn transmitted to children, teenagers and young adults. This will ultimately bring about an improvement in the quality of education by implementing 21st century skills. “Through Fundación Telefónica and in partnership with the Ministry of Education, we seek to enhance teachers’ knowledge in order to improve and strengthen the quality of education in the country, giving children and teenagers greater opportunities by bridging the technological gap”, explained José Antonio Fernández Valbuena, director of Fundación Telefónica Guatemala and El Salvador.

Training will be given absolutely free via the Telefónica Group’s A+ e-learning platform. Teachers will be able to access the platform using the various Fundación Telefónica Classrooms in the country, and can also connect using mobile devices such as tablets and phones. The training will begin at the Dr. Arturo Romero Educational Centre in Ahuachapán.

The course will include content such as management skills, an ICT module, and a module on innovation, innovative leaders and peace leaders. All of the content is divided into basic, intermediate and advanced level training. 964 teachers are enrolled in the basic level, 111 in the intermediate level, and 201 in the advanced level.

Throughout the process, on-site assistance will also be available in topics such as mobile learning, innovation and ICTs.
The second stage of the courses will include new schools in order to cover more of the country’s municipalities. This stage will take place from 28 June to 6 September.

Of the schools taking part, 30 schools have already been supported by Telefónica since 2014.
