We end the year with an important recognition for our work in the field of culture in 2015.In a letter to Claudio Muñoz, the president of Fundación Telefónica, the Chilean Academy of Fine Arts of the Institute of Chile has notified its intention to award the Academy 2015 Award to the Fundación Telefónica Space “for its track record in and commitment to artistic creation, which has made a significant and lasting contribution to culture, bringing the performing, visual and musical arts closer to our communities.”

The Premio Academia is the highest distinction awarded every year by the Academy in recognition of the work of an individual or organization that has stood out for its dissemination of the cultural values of Chilean artistic expression.
The award consists of a diploma and a sculpture created especially for the occasion by the well-known Chilean sculptor, member of the Academy and National Plastic Arts Award winner 1997, Sergio Castillo.

The official presentation will be made in April 2016.

About the Award

The main objective of the Chilean Academy of Fine Arts is to foster the advancement and dissemination of the arts in all their forms. Its members are devoted to studying the challenges facing art from the process of creation, research, interpretation, practice, criticism, production, publishing and dissemination, as well as cultural policies and, art education, proposing solutions to these challenges. They also pursue the defence of the spiritual, ethical and moral values of art and respect for its history and its role models.

Every year the Academy grants four awards as a means of providing public recognition to people who have distinguished themselves as creators in the different fields of artistic expression, or the institutions and performers who have taken the trouble to disseminate, either at home or abroad, the creations of Chilean artists, thus furthering knowledge of their work.

The Academy’s award (which is open to any artistic specialization) is given by the organization to pay public homage to an institution or individual who has shown a constant commitment to artistic creation in Chile. It is hoped that this recognition will serve as an incentive to the community as a whole due to the importance of creative activities as a manifestation of beauty or aesthetic sentiment, whether through music, the visual arts, the performing arts; artistic expressions that uniquely reflect the idiosyncrasies of Chile, as well as its importance as a cultural contribution to the country. Its goal is to reward commitment, permanence and consistency in the field of the visual, performing and musical arts.

The other awards granted by the Academy are the Domingo Santa Cruz Award (for the musical arts), the Agustín Siré Award (for performing and audiovisual arts), and the Marco Bontá Award (for the visual arts).
