20 Stories of Transformation of Schools in Latin America

Description

This work relates the transformation process which led to the improvement of educational quality in vulnerable environments carried out by the project Educational Quality Improvement System which took place in Chile, Colombia, El Salvador, Guatemala, Panama and Peru. Schools which took part in the project managed to improve their educational quality thanks to the participation and involvement of the entire educational community.

This project, carried out by Fundación Telefónica and the Federación Internacional Fe y Alegría, is based on a methodology for improvement structured in several steps: evaluation of the school´s situation and a process of reflection by the entire educational community. Through this integration process each center designs solutions adapted to its own problems and its evolution is evaluated again. Each school working in the project showed an improvement from its starting position.

These 20 stories of transformation included in the book were chosen to show the experience of some of the schools which took part in the project so that they can inspire other educational communities. These stories reflect the effort and dedication made during three years by all the participants which led to significant improvements, not only in the results in language, mathematics and values, but also improvements in teaching, in the teaching methodologies applied and in communication, integration and the relationships between students, parents, teachers, principals and community as a whole.
