The Information Society in Spain 2013

Description

This year's report once again highlights the fact that the Information Society has continued to develop and to permeate all the areas of our lives. In the last decade, ICT services have gone through different phases: at first they were seen as a great novelty, later as just another option and now, as the report shows, they are taken for granted and often go unnoticed.

This year has been an especially dynamic one for the development of infrastructures. In 2013 a great leap was made in the deployment of new generation networks, both fixed (with the advancement of fiber-optics in homes), and mobile (with the launch of the all-new LTE networks). The foundations are now being laid for another stage, in which the focal points will be service quality, bandwidth and mobility.

Once more, access in mobility through smartphones is the great driving force of change, which is helping to bring technology to all age groups. Its impact is such that it even changes the way we go about our activities, a phenomenon which we have called “mobilisation of behaviour” in this report, and which will be accentuated in the coming years.

In the 14th edition of this report, we have gone a step further to focus on the trends that are moving the both mature and incipient services of the Information Society. With this approach, which is mainly used in the chapter on Digital Life, we have sought to bring added value. The rest of the report continues the structure and focus of previous years. Finally, we would once again like to thank Spain's Autonomous Communities for their contribution, which undoubtedly makes this work all the more special.
